JAIGOPAL GARODIA HINDU VIDYALAYA MATRIC. HR. SEC. SCHOOL West Mambalam, Chennai

History of the School

The inception of the first Hindu Vidyalaya School was in the year 1975 at West Mambalam, Chennai. The High Court of Chennai allotted a land at Elaiamman Koil Street managed by their trust and allowed us to start a Balwadi. The Management of Vishva Hindu Vidya Kendra started a Kindergarten school along with the Balwadi.

In 1979, the land for the present school at Postal Colony IV Street was acquired from the Telephones Colony House Building Co-operative Society. In 1980-81, a temporary school structure was set up for the classes KG to X as the de jure transfer was not done by the society due to the loan.
In 1982-83, the school became a Higher Secondary school. As the temporary building couldn’t house all the classes, the Higher Secondary school was set up in Rangappa Reddy Street, in a five ground land given by Srinivasa Moorthy Mandiram.

The new and permanent school building in Postal Colony IV Street, was inaugurated by the then CM of Uttar Pradesh, Sri. Kalyan Singh, on 2nd August 1992, in the Divine presence of Sri Math Andavan Sriranga Ramanuja Maha Desikan and Sri. R. Srihari, Industrialist & the then Working President of VHP Tamil Nadu, Dr. R. Sridhar, former M.P. & Sri. S. Jayakumar, former MLA.

The school started flourishing with a strength of over 2000 students and the need for a separate building for the Primary classes arose.
A five and half ground land was acquired from Sri. Sampath in Lake View Road, West Mambalam 100 meters from the main block.
The foundation stone for the Silver Jubilee building in Lake View Road was laid by His Holiness Sri. Sankara Vijayendra Saraswati Sankaracharya Swamigal of Sri. Kanchi Mutt, in the year 2000. The building was inaugurated on 2nd June 2005, by Man. Sri. Ashok Singhal, the then Working President of VHP, in the presence of Sri. Sampath Kumar, the then President of VHVK, Sri. S. Vedantam, the then General Secretary of VHVK and Smt. Girija Seshadri, the then Principal of J. G. Hindu Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, West Mambalam, Chennai.
